Pemuteran Tourism Village in Buleleng, Bali, Indonesia, has won the prestigious title of “Best Tourism Village 2025” from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism).
This award was presented simultaneously to several of the world’s best tourism villages at the annual Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism – 2025 Ceremony & Third Annual Network Meeting held in Huzhou, China, on Friday (10/17/2025).
In addition to Pemuteran, Osing Kemiren Tourism Village from Banyuwangi, East Java, was also selected for the Upgrade Programme of the Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism 2025. Both villages successfully passed a rigorous selection process, competing against 270 candidate tourism villages from 65 countries.
Minister of Tourism (Menpar) Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (10/17/2025), expressed her pride in this achievement. She emphasized that the award represents international recognition for the quality of tourism village management in Indonesia.
“I am very proud and optimistic. This award will inspire other tourism villages throughout Indonesia to continue optimizing their natural potential, cultural heritage, and community empowerment toward more inclusive and sustainable tourism,” said Minister of Tourism Widiyanti.
Hariyanto, Deputy for Tourism Destination Development and Infrastructure at the Ministry of Tourism, was present to receive the award along with representatives from the two tourism villages: I Gusti Agung Ngurah Kertiyasa and I Ketut Sutrawan Selamet from Pemuteran Tourism Village, and Muhamad Nanda Al Hakim Akbar from Osing Kemiren Tourism Village.
Hariyanto explained that Best Tourism Villages (BTV) is a UN Tourism initiative to promote tourism as a driver of economic development and environmental sustainability in rural areas.
“The Ministry of Tourism will continue to amplify the values promoted by UN Tourism so that tourist villages in Indonesia can utilize tourism as a vehicle for positive, inclusive, and sustainable transformation. We want to create villages that promote and preserve nature and culture, value gastronomy, handicrafts, and its people. Villages that continuously innovate and embrace an entrepreneurial spirit, empower their communities, and strive for the well-being of both local residents and tourists,” said Hariyanto.
Pemuteran Village is known as a coastal village in Buleleng Regency, Bali, attracting tourists with its natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and strong commitment to sustainable tourism principles. The village has implemented various initiatives to preserve marine ecosystems, develop ecotourism, and preserve the local wisdom of Balinese culture.
Through community-based programs and collaborations with local governments and non-governmental organizations, Pemuteran strives to create a harmonious balance between tourism development and environmental preservation, making it a unique and attractive destination for tourists.
Pemuteran Tourism Village has previously received a regional award under the ASEAN Tourism Standard for the Community-Based Tourism (CBT) 2023–2025 category.
Meanwhile, Osing Kemiren Tourism Village, a fostered village under PT Astra International Tbk, also received the ASEAN Homestay Standard Award 2025–2027.
Pemuteran Village’s success in the BTV 2025 event continues a string of achievements by Indonesian tourism villages that have previously made a name for themselves on the global stage, such as Nglanggeran Tourism Village (2021), Penglipuran (2023), Jatiluwih (2024), and Wukirsari (2024), as well as other villages that have successfully entered the Upgrade Program. This achievement further strengthens Indonesia’s position within the global tourism village network.
