For Godzilla fans, starting this December, passengers at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport will be sent off with a truly unique farewell. A giant Godzilla statue, measuring 40 meters wide and nine meters high, will dominate the departure lobby for a year, until December 2026.
The statue depicts the cinematic icon Godzilla bursting through the airport wall, becoming an unmissable landmark and sure to be a major attraction at Japan’s busiest airport. Godzilla has appeared in over 30 films in and outside of Japan since the first film was released in 1954, according to the official website. This may be the first time Godzilla has been brought to life inside an airport.
The towering Godzilla statue is planned to stand—or rather, to be on top of—the third floor of the departure lobby, but passengers arriving at Haneda can also enjoy the excitement. Arriving passengers will come face-to-face with a smaller, though still terrifying, statue from the 2023 film Godzilla Minus One. They will also encounter images of the city-destroying reptile and other monsters featured in the franchise, displayed above the information desk in the arrivals lobby on the second floor of the terminal.
This project, a collaboration between Toho Co. (the studio behind the Godzilla films) and the operator of Haneda Airport, is designed to leave a lasting impression on travelers, showcasing iconic examples of Japanese design and entertainment. The number of international visitors to Japan is at a record high, with more than 31 million arrivals in the first nine months of 2025.
