Thailand has been frequently in the news lately for its surprising regulations. This time, it concerns alcohol consumption in the country, which the Thai government believes is excessive and requires restrictions. This regulation applies to everyone, everywhere, including tourist destinations.
Starting in November 2025, a limited alcohol consumption time will be established. The fine is a hefty 10,000 baht or USD 313.18 (approximately 5 million Rupiah). This is a staggering figure. This law is an amendment to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act, which already prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages between 12:00 AM and 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
Enforcement primarily targets businesses selling alcoholic beverages outside of operating hours. This revised law places full responsibility on consumers when choosing their food and drink choices. Those who fail to exercise restraint can be fined for drinking alcohol outside of these restricted hours.
These new regulations aim to improve compliance and reduce the health and social risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption. Prospective tourists from outside Thailand are urged to pay attention to these new regulations.
